The 18th birthday of a young girl from Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1970, at the height of the free love and hippie movement, starts a journey that will transport her back 300 years to the founding of America. Lust, betrayal, and the overwhelming demands of a chaste and Puritan lifestyle is tortuous to young Mark Browne – with Reverend Weber leading the moral charge of their community.
Then what Mark believes to be a chance encounter in a forest following a failed fishing trip. transforms his life, his family, and all those in his community. Naraya selects Mark to learn and then spread the wisdom and knowledge of the world's creation, of its flora and fauna, and how mankind was created – and the hope for a better world.

I liked every page of this book, especially the characters of Mark and Naraya. They look so real although this is a fantasy book. Many situations resemble our everyday life setup and conflict reminding of recent problems and hardships, but showing them in a positive perspective. Overall the book is very optimistic suggesting us a happy future if we manage to learn from our past.
This book was a wonderful surprise. I was not only captivated by the spellbinding story that unfolded but its powerful message of ecological interdependence touched my heart. This book will surely awaken in every reader a deeper connection with nature while they enjoy a good read.
This is one of the books that you want to read if you are romantic, history bound and interested in changing the world. It is about our past and future, about the people who might live next to us nowadays but we cannot understand them. I would like though to learn about Eleanor's and Mary's past life. They both look very brave and tough women ready to protect their family in the first place.
The book plot is very fascinating being a combination of history and kind of fairy tale. Both the story and most of the characters make a strong impression and will ingress to do lots of research for myself. On the other hand the story needs more detailed character development like Mary, Mark's mum and his father John. Would be great to learn more about their life.
I like this book. Naraya is a very kind, unobtrusive and thoughtful story of several generations of one family, where reality is mixed with imagination, and fantasy became a reality. It is a book about us and universe, about our connection with different dimensions of universe by intriguing travel between time and space, where we jump into our future, and came back for a few moments to look into our past through prism of current day. This book helps to understand the nature of ourselves.
Naraya - what a wonderful and unusual book! It makes a serious reading and fantasy fairy tale blend together and produce a fabulous story of a common village boy and a beautiful enchantress from a magic forest. It is not that simple though as it might seem from the very beginning. It goes into more profoundness with every chapter, and you cannot stop reading. It takes you all over the world and brings you to the depth of your soul. In the long run, it makes you think and see clearly around you. I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults.
